Coconut Oil is a Natural Remedy for Shiny and Healthy Hair

Coconut Oil for Hair
Coconut oil is an amazing hair remedy straight from nature. It’s light, smells terrific, and has been used around the globe for thousands of years, not just as hair remedy.
Lately coconut oil and associated products from coconuts have become hot topics, although the research dates back several decades. Some hair and skin care products use it as an ingredient, but it may be more beneficial and economical to use the coconut oil alone and not pay the price for brand name shampoos, conditioners, and moisturizers.
It is one of the best natural nutrition for hair and also known as coconut butter which helps in healthy growth of hair providing a shiny complexion.
Most moisturizing products which contain mineral oil or lanolin as the moisturizer only add a temporary gloss to your thirsty dry hair because they cannot actually penetrate the hair shaft.
Unlike other oils that remain on the surface of the hair, coconut oil has the property to penetrate three times more than any other oil to the hair shaft. It reaches the hair fibre right up to the cortex, which is like the heart of the hair fibre. Olive oil penetrates up to 25% in the hair shaft, while coconut oil penetrates 90%.
It’s important that you use Virgin Coconut Oil, because this oil is not processed, solid at room temperature and turns into liquid at 76 degrees F. To use the coconut oil, just simply rub a very small amount into the palm of your hands and rub through your hair as a daily moisturizer. You should start with a very small amount and add more as necessary. Do not focus on the scalp, but the actual hair strands instead.
As a pre shampoo treatment, it has anti fungal and anti microbial qualities that help reduce problems with dandruff and bacterial scalp infection without the harsh effects of chemical used in commercial products. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff even if your scalp is dry.
Coconut Oil Components and their effects on hair:
- lauric Acid: Microbial action on the scalp and hair roots is the most responsible reasons behind hair fall and hair loss. Lauric Acid is an antimicrobial agent which protects hair against them. It is basically a triglyceride which yields a monoglyceride called Monolaurin when acted upon by a species of bacteria which breaks the glycerol bonds. This monolaurin has excellent antimicrobial properties. Lauric acid can also build body immune system, exactly the way mother’s milk does.
- Capric Acid: This is yet another triglyceride present in Coconut oil, which, like Lauric Acid, yields another monoglyceride called Monocaprin due to bacterial action, having antimicrobial properties similar to that of monolaurin.
- Anti Dandruff: Coconut Oil contains various fatty acids which serve as very good anti dandruff agents. A regular application can help you get rid of dandruffs for ever.
- Vitamin E: The benefit of vitamin E to keeps scalp, skin healthy and hair rejuvenated.
- Styling: Coconut oil melts on heating and condenses on cooling, so it can be good for hair styling oil. It will thin and spreads evenly when you apply it on your hair due to heat of the scalp. When the hair comes in contact with air, soon afterwards the oil on hair condenses on cooling and thus works as a cream or styling gel.
- Moisture Retaining Capacity: Since coconut oil is not broken down easily nor evaporated, being very stable, it has high moisture retaining capacity. The benefit of coconut oil is to prevent hair breakage because it doesn’t let moisture escape thus keeping hair moistened and soft. For hair conditioner, coconut oil is a far better than any synthetic one available in the market.
Over applied coconut oil on your hair may be left with a greasy feel and appearance. It can only be removed with a thorough washing. For this reason, coconut oil should be carefully distributed throughout the application process.
Coconut oil is a natural remedy that not only helps fight against dandruff, excessive hair loss (which, as natural as it might be, is also something all of us are trying to reduce) and weakened hairs, but it also makes your hair shinier and stronger. In other words, try it if you really want to give your hair the deluxe treatment for a stunning aspect.
